Cecilija and the Dragon

Interactive performance for children (4+)

Have you ever met a real dragon or dreamed of how you would lure it with various tricks? The heroine Cecilija does not hesitate and, as a fearless knight, embarks on an adventure where she faces the dragon and outwits it. The performance is intended for children aged 3 and up, and in its musical-theatrical form, it playfully explores the theme of female and male roles in contemporary society.
The performance is based on the book Cecilija in zmaj (Cecilia and the Dragon) by Lawrence Schimmel, translated by Branko Mozetič and published by the Center for Slovenian Literature.

The picture book that inspired the performance breaks down stereotypical divisions between male and female roles in a direct and engaging way. Knights are transformed into female knights, bloodthirsty dragons become clumsy lizards, and former helpless victims are now adventure-seeking girls who try their best to get to know the dragons.

The picture book is the recipient of the Golden Pear, a mark of quality in children's literature.
